Princess Sofia of Sweden pregnant with fourth child, palace announces

Princess Sofia, the wife of Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, is pregnant with her fourth child, Sweden’s royal household has announced.
The baby, who is due in February next year, will become eighth-in-line to the Swedish throne.
The happy news was announced on Monday evening (Tuesday morning in Australia), just days after Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia were photographed at the wedding of Norway’s Princess Märtha Louise and Shaman Durek Verrett.

In the statement, the royal court said Princess Sofia was “doing well”.
“No changes are expected in Princess Sofia’s official program during the autumn,” it added.
Princess Sofia, 39, married into Sweden’s royal family on June 13, 2015. She is believed to have met her prince at a nightclub having been introduced by mutual friends.
Their wedding, inside the Royal Chapel at the Royal Palace of Stockholm, was attended by royalty from across Europe and the UK.
Prince Carl and Princess Sofia now have three sons: Prince Alexander, eight, Prince Gabriel, seven, and Prince Julian, three.

Since the wedding, Princess Sofia has maintained a busy diary of events representing the monarchy at official events both with her husband and on solo engagements.
They have a foundation, The Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia Foundation, with two main areas of focus – online safety for children and increasing understanding for those with dyslexia, a condition the prince has.
The new royal baby will be the ninth grandchild for Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Prince Carl Philip is the second child of the King and Queen. His elder sister, Crown Princess Victoria, is heir to the throne. She and husband Prince Daniel have two children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar.
Their youngest sibling, Princess Madeleine, returned to Sweden in June with her husband and three children after living in the United States for more than a decade.
Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia’s new child will be known as a prince or princess but will not carry His/Her Royal Highness status.
In 2019, King Carl XVI Gustaf revoked the royal status of five of his grandchildren, stripping them of the titles of ‘royal highness’ and freeing them from royal duties.
The decision affected the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia and Princess Madeleine’s, but not those of Crown Princess Victoria.
